ROK and Japanese Chief Negotiators on North Korean Nuclear Issue Hold Telephone Conversation

1. Amb. Lee Do-hoon, Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, had a telephone conversation on the afternoon of April 24 with Director-General of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan Kenji Kanasugi, Japan’s top negotiator on the North Korean nuclear issue.

 

2. The two sides shared their assessments of the results of the Republic of Korea-United States summit (April 11), and exchanged views on ways the ROK and Japan can work together to make substantive progress in complete denuclearization and the establishment of a permanent peace regime on the Korean Peninsula.

 

3. The two sides agreed to continue close communication and cooperation.

 

4. On a side note, after the ROK-US summit (April 11), Special Representative Lee met with ambassadors to the ROK from the US, Japan, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, the French Republic, the Federal Republic of Germany, the European Union, the Italian Republic, and the Commonwealth of Australia, and shared the accomplishments of the summit.
