1. Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha and Ambassador of the United States to the Republic of Korea Harry Harris signed the renewed ROK-US Special Measures Agreement (SMA) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Seoul, at 16:10, March 8, 2019.

※ Among the ceremony participants were Ambassador for the Special Measures Agreement Consultation Chang Won-sam and Director General of the International Policy Bureau of the Ministry of National Defense Lee Won-ik from the ROK; and General Abrams (Commander, US Forces, Korea) and Major General Lukeman (Assistant Chief of Staff for Plans and Policy, USFK) from the US.

※ In addition to the SMA, Implementation Arrangement for the Special Measures Agreement (SMA IA) was signed by Director General of the International Policy Bureau of the ROK Ministry of National Defense and the Assistant Chief of Staff for Plans and Policy for the USFK.

2. The signed SMA will be submitted to the National Assembly as soon as possible to get its approval for ratification.

3. The SMA, upon entry into force, is expected to greatly contribute to securing a stable stationing environment for the USFK, while further strengthening the alliance and solidifying mutual trust between the two countries.
