1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea has decided to issue a Special Travel Alert, which is tantamount to travel-alert Level 3 (Recommend Withdrawal), for the parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo that are currently under travel-alert Level 2 (Highly Cautious). The Special Travel Alert will be effective from December 28, 2018.

° Given the possibility of an unrest in the wake of the presidential election in the DR Congo scheduled for December 30, 2018, and of Korean nationals being affected by the unrest when it arises, the Special Travel Alert will be in place temporarily until the situation over the presidential election becomes stable.

2. The Korean nationals staying in the DR Congo are advised to leave the country unless there are urgent matters to attend to. Those planning to visit the region are asked to cancel or postpone their plans.

3. The Foreign Ministry, meticulously monitoring developments regarding the presidential election as well as the public security situation in the DR Congo, will mull over whether it would be necessary to further adjust the travel alert levels for the country.
