1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization, will host a “smart city road show” for foreign diplomats to the Republic of Korea under the theme of “Diplomacy for Homo Sapiencity” in Seoul on December 17.

2. The road show event will bring together some 170 people, including entrepreneurs, scholars and government officials in the field of smart cities, as well as about 60 diplomats to the ROK from some 50 countries.

The opening ceremony of the event will feature opening remarks by Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs Yun Kang-hyeon, followed by welcoming remarks by Secretary-General of the World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization Lee Kyong-yul, and congratulatory remarks by Ambassador for International Relations of the Seoul Metropolitan Government Yim Geun-hyeong and the Director-General for Urban Policy of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

° In the presentation session, professor Jeong Jae-seung, the master planner of a smart city pilot project (Sejong), will share with the other participants the progress in the implementation of the pilot project and relevant plans, followed by presentations on the Seoul Metropolitan City’s smart city strategies and related solutions to be carried out by such enterprises as SKT and Hancom.

4. The forthcoming road show is expected to serve as an opportunity to share with foreign diplomats to the ROK information on the country’s smart city policy and relevant solutions by enterprises. As such, it is expected to contribute to stepping up substantive cooperation with the international community in the field.
