1. The 1st Republic of Korea-United Arab Emirates High-level Consultation on Nuclear Cooperation will take place at a Lotte Hotel, Seoul, on November 16.

° The leaders of the two countries agreed in March to set up a bilateral channel for communication on nuclear energy and to hold its 1st meeting in 2018.

° The forthcoming meeting will be co-chaired by Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Lee Tae-ho and Minister of Energy and Industry Suhail Al-Mazrouei, the ROK and UAE head delegates, and bring together some 50 people, including director-general-level officials of the two countries' government agencies and other organizations related to nuclear energy.

2. At the ROK-UAE High-level Consultation on Nuclear Cooperation, which will function as a channel for comprehensive and strategic communication on nuclear energy, the two sides will review the progress in the Barakah nuclear power plant project; and exchange views on diverse matters of mutual interest regarding nuclear energy, including the two countries’ joint entry into nuclear power plant markets of third countries, research and development, nuclear security, and nuclear safety.

3. The launch of the “ROK-UAE High-level Consultation on Nuclear Cooperation” mechanism is expected to help strengthen nuclear cooperation and thereby to contribute to further advancing the ROK-UAE special strategic partnership forged in March 2018.
