Vice Foreign Minister Cho Hyun Meets with Vice Foreign Minister of Costa Rica

1. At 15:30, October 11, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun met with Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship of the Republic of Costa Rica Lorena Aguilar Revelo, who was on a visit to the Republic of Korea. In the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, including the current situation on the Korean Peninsula and ways that the ROK and Costa Rica can work together.

 

Vice Minister Aguilar was on a visit to the ROK accompanying the First Lady of Costa Rica, who attended the international “Private Investment for Climate Conference 2018” (October 10-11) hosted by the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

 

2. Vice Minister Cho explained the outcome of the third inter-Korean summit, asking for support for the ROK government’s efforts to achieve denuclearization and establish a permanent peace regime on the Korean Peninsula.

 

° Vice Minister Aguilar expressed support for the ROK government’s efforts to seek progress in inter-Korean relations, adding that cooperation will be continuously rendered toward a peaceful resolution of the North Korean nuclear issue and the establishment of peace on the Korean Peninsula.

 

3. The two sides noted with appreciation that the ROK and Costa Rica have been continuously enhancing close, friendly and cooperative ties in diverse sectors since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1962, and agreed to further step up substantive cooperation on bilateral, regional and global levels.

 

° Vice Minister Cho took note of the growing substantive cooperation between the two countries, as could be seen from the recent conclusion of the ROK-Central America FTA (signed in February 2018) and stronger environmental cooperation between the ROK and Costa Rica, a model country in environmental protection.

 

° Vice Minister Aguilar voiced hope that the two countries will actively seek ways to work together in various sectors and, will, in particular, step up cooperation in the areas of transportation, infrastructure and urban planning.
