1. The 1st Republic of Korea-United Arab Emirates Foreign and Defense Vice Ministerial (2+2) Meeting will take place at the Lotte Hotel Seoul on October 12.

o In the 3rd strategic dialogue held in Abu Dhabi in July this year, the Foreign Ministers of the ROK and the UAE agreed to hold the Foreign and Defense Vice Ministerial (2+2) Meeting, which the ROK President and the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi agreed to create in March this year, in the second half of the year.

o The delegations of the ROK and the UAE to the meeting will be led by Vice Minister of National Defense Suh Choo-suk and Deputy Minister for Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yoon Soon-gu, and Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Matar Salim Al-Dhaheri and Assistant Under-Secretary for Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Khalifa Shaheen Al-Marar of the UAE, respectively.

As the UAE side named the Assistant Under-Secretary of the Foreign Ministry and the Under-Secretary of the Defence Ministry as heads of its delegation, the ROK side also named the Deputy Minister of the Foreign Ministry and the Vice Minister of National Defense as heads of its delegation.

2. In the upcoming vice ministerial (2+2) meeting, the two countries will extensively discuss ways to advance the ROK-UAE special strategic partnership; the situations on the Korean Peninsula and in the Middle East; security cooperation; and cooperation on the global stage.

3. The forthcoming high-level meeting is expected to serve as an opportunity to discuss the way forward for the ROK-UAE special strategic partnership, to which the bilateral relations were elevated in March this year, and to reaffirm close cooperation between the two countries not only in economic affairs, but also in foreign and security affairs.
