1. The Republic of Korea government has decided to provide $1 mln in cash in humanitarian assistance to Japan, which suffered great damage from the record rainfall in its western region in early July.
※ According to the Japanese government, as of July 19, the heavy rain has left 217 people dead, another 12 missing, 364 injured, and 4,581 displaced as well as 38,646 homes destroyed.
2. During her courtesy call on Prime Minister Abe on July 8, Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha relayed President Moon Jae-in’s message, in which he expressed heart-felt sympathy and wish for an early restoration of the affected areas. In response, Prime Minister Abe extended deep appreciation.
3. Going forward, the ROK government will continue extending humanitarian assistance to countries and people affected by natural disasters.
