1. On June 25, Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha met with Commander Philip S. Davidson of the US Indo-Pacific Command, who was on a visit to the Republic of Korea. In the meeting, the Minister extended appreciation to the Indo-Pacific Command for its contribution to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, and exchanged views with its Commander on ways to beef up the Republic of Korea-United States alliance.

Commander Davidson took charge of the Indo-Pacific Command on May 30, the day when the US Department of Defense renamed the previous Pacific Command the Indo-Pacific Command.

2. Commander Davidson stated that while supporting diplomatic efforts to implement the measures agreed upon at the US-North Korea summit talks held on June 12, the Indo-Pacific Command would continue work to maintain the ROK-US combined defense posture through close bilateral coordination.

3. Minister Kang welcomed the assignment of Commander Davidson to his new post; underscored the importance of the ironclad ROK-US alliance in seeking constant, smooth progress toward a complete denuclearization and in the peace process on the Korean Peninsula; and asked the Commander of the Indo-Pacific Command to make efforts to maintain the bilateral coordination in a watertight state.
