Outcome of Foreign Minister’s Meeting with her US Counterpart
1. Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha met with US Secretary of State Pompeo on June 14, and shared their assessments of the results of the US-North Korea summit on June 12. They also discussed how to deal with the denuclearization issue.
2. The two sides shared the view that the US-North Korea summit was a historic milestone in efforts to achieve the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and to establish a lasting peace on the Peninsula. They also agreed to continue to strengthen diplomatic efforts to make substantial progress in completely denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula based on watertight cooperation between the ROK and the US, building upon such accomplishment from the US-North Korea summit.
3. The two sides shared the view that as the inter-Korean and US-North Korea summits were held successfully, it is important now to thoroughly prepare for follow-up negotiations to fully and swiftly implement the agreement reached at the summits, and agreed to continue to coordinate more closely at each level to devise their joint response strategies.
