1. The Foreign Ministry held the third “Cornerstone Dialogue” at Chonnam National University on May 24. This “diplomacy together with the people” project organized by the Ministry’s North American Affairs Bureau brought together some 70 students.
° The “Cornerstone Dialogue,” part of the “diplomacy together with the people” project, is an event held at colleges across the Republic of Korea to explain the government’s foreign policy as well as key diplomatic and security issues. The round held at Chonnam National University marked the third of its kind, following the ones held at Catholic Kwandong University and Seoul National University.
2. At the event, Deputy Director-General for North American Affairs Ko Yun-ju of the Foreign Ministry delivered a lecture on “the situation on the Korean Peninsula in the wake of the inter-Korean summit talks on April 27.” The question-and-answer session with the students served as an opportunity to gather diverse opinions on the ROK government’s foreign policy.
° The participating students demonstrated keen interest in the outcome of the recent inter-Korean and ROK-US summit talks and other main developments on the Korean Peninsula, as well as relevant activities of the Foreign Ministry.
3. Going forward, the Foreign Ministry will hold the “Cornerstone Dialogue,” a public diplomacy project on policies, at colleges across the country to share with the young the ROK government policies and to step up communication with them.
