1. On May 22, Vice Foreign Minister Cho Hyun met with Secretary for International Economic Relations of the Argentine Foreign Ministry Reyser in Buenos Aires he visited to attend the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. The two sides exchanged views on ways to enhance economic cooperation between the Republic of Korea and Argentina, including an ROK-Mercosur trade agreement; cooperation on the international stage, including the G20; and the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

2. The two sides welcomed the start of the negotiations on an ROK-Mercosur trade agreement on May 25, and shared the view that the conclusion of the trade agreement is expected to increase trade and investment between the two sides, and facilitate closer economic cooperation.

3. Vice Minister Cho congratulated Argentina on the success of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, and took note of the roles of Argentina as the president of the G20 in strengthening multilateralism and global governance. The two sides agreed to step up cooperation in the multilateral arena.

4. Vice Minister Cho explained the results of the latest inter-Korean summit, and asked for Argentina’s interest and support for the ROK government’s efforts to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula and establish a lasting peace regime on the Peninsula.
