1. Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha met with Executive Director David Beasley of the UN World Food Programme (WFP) at the Foreign Ministry on May 16.  

2. With the year 2018 marking the 50th anniversary of the conclusion of the Republic of Korea-WFP “Basic Agreement concerning Assistance from the World Food Programme,” the two sides took note of the growing cooperation between the food aid recipient-turned-major donor ROK and the WFP; and agreed to continue working together toward “Zero Hunger.”

3. Executive Director Beasley shared with Minister Kang the outcome of his visit to North Korea from May 8 till 11 and the progress in humanitarian assistance projects for North Korea. Minister Kang, on her part, explained the result of the inter-Korean summit talks and other recent developments in the inter-Korean relations, commending the WFP for its activities in North Korea.

4. The two sides also discussed ways to work together on humanitarian assistance to developing countries and food aid projects that may be conducted in developing countries with rice produced in the ROK.
