1. The government of the Republic of Korea has decided to provide earthquake-hit Iran with 300,000 US dollars in humanitarian assistance through the Iranian Red Crescent Society. Iran sustained loss of lives and property damage from the massive 7.2-magnitude earthquake that occurred in the Kermanshah province in its northwestern border area with Iraq on November 12, 2017, followed by more than 40 further earthquakes and aftershocks so far.

° The earthquakes in Iran in November 2017 left more than 400 people dead and more than 50,000 households displaced, with the further earthquakes and aftershocks continuously incurring casualties and property damage.

2. The donation of 300,000 US dollars from the ROK government will consist of 200,000 US dollars in cash and relief goods worth another 100,000 US dollars. The cash donation will be channeled into “the Operational Plan 2018 Iran: Earthquake Recovery,” which the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) are implementing in cooperation with the Iranian Red Crescent Society.

3. The ROK government’s assistance is expected to help those Iranians, who are suffering from damage caused by the series of earthquakes, with their efforts to restore stability in their lives and help achieve the recovery of affected areas as soon as possible.

4. Going forward, the ROK government will continuously increase humanitarian assistance to countries and peoples affected by natural disasters.
