1. The Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) held an ad-hoc Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) in Seoul from November 30 to December 1.

° The Republic of Korea, FEALAC’s Regional Coordinator for East Asia, chaired the meeting that brought together delegates from 34 FEALAC member countries.

2. At SOM, the FEALAC member states agreed to establish a FEALAC fund as proposed by the ROK; to adopt a New FEALAC Action Plan at the eighth FEALAC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM) to take place in the ROK in 2017 as one of its main deliverables; and to continue consultations on its details.

3. The ROK formally announced its plan to hold the eighth FMM in Busan from May 23 to 25, 2017, asking the other members of FEALAC to help make a success of the event.

4. With the FEALAC members having agreed at SOM to adopt a New FEALAC Action Plan and establish a FEALAC fund, the FMM in 2017 is expected to serve as an opportunity for FEALAC, the only inter-governmental consultative mechanism between East Asia and Latin America, to take a qualitative leap.
