1. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Lee Joon-sik attended on behalf of the government of the Republic of Korea the funeral for late President Karimov, which took place in Samarkand on September 3.

2. After the funeral, Deputy Prime Minister Lee met with Prime Minister Shavkat Miromonovich Mirziyoyev to relay condolences from President Park Geun-hye and Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn over the passing of President Karimov and to voice hope for continued advances in the ROK-Uzbekistan strategic partnership, which had been forged during the tenure of President Karimov.
