1. First Vice Foreign Minister Lim Sung-nam met with Foreign Secretary Shanker Bairagi of Nepal on June 7 and discussed with him the Republic of Korea-Nepal relations, sanctions on North Korea and Nepal’s efforts to recover from its latest earthquake and reconstruct itself.

2. The Vice Minister and the Secretary noted with appreciation the steady advances in the friendly and cooperative ties between the two countries since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1974. They agreed to further promote their substantive cooperation in such fields as investment, tourism and development as well as on the international stage.

3. In particular, Secretary Bairagi, condemning North Korea for its attempts at nuclear and missile development, stated that Nepal will take an active part in the international community’s efforts to pressure North Korea, including by implementing UN Security Council resolutions.

4. Secretary Bairagi once again extended appreciation to the ROK government for its assistance in the wake of the powerful earthquake in Nepal in April 2015, and spoke about the progress in Nepal’s recovery and reconstruction efforts. In response, Vice Minister Lim voiced hope that the reconstruction work will move forward in a prompt and smooth manner.
