1. First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yong will attend a vice foreign ministerial meeting among the Republic of Korea, the United States and Japan in Washington DC on April 16. In the meeting, the Vice Minister will consult with US Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Japan’s Vice Foreign Minister Akitaka Saiki on ways for the three countries to work together.

2. The first-ever vice foreign ministerial meeting among the three countries will come after the trilateral summit held on the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit in The Hague in March 2014 and the trilateral foreign ministerial meeting held on the margins of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) meeting in Myanmar in August 2014. The forthcoming meeting, like the aforementioned trilateral talks, is expected to serve as an opportunity to move their trilateral cooperation forward.

3. Coordination is currently under way to arrange bilateral meetings with the US and Japanese officials on the sidelines of the trilateral meeting.
