Outcome of the Korea-Haiti Foreign Ministers' Meeting

1. Foreign Minister Kim Sung-Hwan met with his new Haitian counterpart Laurent Lamouthe, who is 
on a visit to Korea for a Korea-LAC (Latin America and Caribbean) Trade and Investment Forum, at 
the Foreign Ministry on October 21 for a discussion on ways to promote cooperation between Korea 
and Haiti, where a new government has launched, such as through Korea's assistance for Haiti's 
recovery from the latest earthquake and Korean companies' participation in reconstruction projects 
in the country.

2. Highlighting strong support by Korea's private, public and military sectors, -- NGOs, the Korea 
International Cooperation Agency and Danbi Unit, respectively -- for Haiti's recovery and reconstruction 
efforts, Minister Kim requested the new Haitian government's cooperation to see smooth progress of 
the projects to construct an industrial complex and power plant in northern Haiti, in which Korean 
enterprises are taking part.

3. The two Ministers shared the view that Korean enterprises in Haiti are contributing greatly to the 
country's develpment by creating jobs and providing technical education. Minister Lamouthe expressed 
the Haitian government's willingness to take particular interest in Korean firms and help them operate in 
a safe environment.

4. The two Ministers agreed to work more closely at the UN and other international organizations and 
for Korean companies to expand the scope of their investment to include not only the textile and garment 
industry, but also information technolgy, electricity, and various other sectors.
