Outcome of Telephone Conversation between Korean and Russian Chief Negotiators for North Korean Nuclear Issue on Dec. 29

1. Amb. Noh Kyu-duk, newly appointed Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, had his first telephone consultation with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Igor Morgulov in their capacity as the Korean and Russian chief negotiators for the North Korean nuclear issue on the afternoon of December 29.

 

° The two sides shared assessments of the situation on the Korean Peninsula and exchanged views on ways for the two countries to work together to achieve progress toward complete denuclearization and the establishment of permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula while managing the current situation in a stable manner.

 

2. The two sides also shared the understanding that Korea and Russia should continue close bilateral communication and cooperation on North Korean issues, including its nuclear program, in various ways, such as face-to-face consultations, and Amb. Noh invited Deputy Minister Morgulov to visit Korea in the near future.
