Outcome of Telephone Conversation between Korean and Japanese Chief Negotiators for North Korean Nuclear Issue on Dec. 23

1. Amb. Noh Kyu-duk, new Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, had his first consultation with Mr. Takehiro Funakoshi, Director-General of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, on the morning of December 23.

 

o The two sides shared their assessments of the situation on the Korean Peninsula, and exchanged views on ways of cooperation between Korea and Japan as well as trilateral cooperation among Korea, the U.S., and Japan to make progress in achieving complete denuclearization and establishing permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula, while managing the current situation in a stable manner.

 

2. The two sides agreed to continue close communication and cooperation on North Korea issues.
