ROK-Mongolia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting Held on Occasion of 2019 Session of UN General Assembly


1. On the occasion of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Kyung-wha had a bilateral meeting with Minister for Foreign Affairs of Mongolia Damdin Tsogtbaatar on September 25. During the meeting, the two sides shared views on the progress in exchanges and cooperation between the Republic of Korea (ROK) and Mongolia, preparations for the 30th anniversary in 2020 of the establishment of the ROK-Mongolia diplomatic relations, and the situations on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia.



2. The two Ministers noted with appreciation that the ROK and Mongolia are maintaining cooperation on the basis of high-level exchanges, including the ROK Prime Minister’s official visit to Mongolia in March 2019, and that lately, bilateral cooperation has been actively underway in such areas as national defense and development cooperation as well. 



3. The two Ministers exchanged views on the recent developments on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia and agreed to continue bilateral communication toward complete denuclearization and the establishment of permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula.



4. In 2020, which marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the ROK-Mongolia diplomatic relations, the two Ministers agreed to create a milestone for the advancement of the bilateral relations and to promote the friendship between people of the two countries by having reciprocal high-level visits, upgrading the bilateral relations and holding a variety of commemorative events.


 

5. The meeting is seen to have served as an opportunity to review the overall progress in bilateral cooperation and to further reinforce the foundation of bilateral cooperation ahead of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the ROK-Mongolia diplomatic relations.
