Foreign Minister Meets with UN Secretary-General Guterres and Deputy Secretary-General Mohammed
1. Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on November 28 (local time) during a stopover in New York on her way to Latin America, and exchanged views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula, and global issues.
o Minister Kang expressed appreciation to Secretary-General Guterres for his consistent support for the Republic of Korea government’s Korean Peninsula policy. She also explained the latest situation on the Korean Peninsula, and asked for the UN’s continued support for efforts to completely denuclearize the Korean Peninsula, and to establish a lasting peace on the Peninsula.
o Secretary-General Guterres reaffirmed his support for the ROK government’s Korean Peninsula policy, and pledged the UN’s continued cooperation to completely denuclearize the Korean Peninsula, and to establish a lasting peace on the Peninsula. 2. Minister Kang also had a separate meeting with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, and exchanged views on the reform of the UN, the implementation of sustainable development, and ways to respond to climate change.
3. Minister Kang’s meetings with the Secretary-General and the Deputy Secretary-General of the UN served as an opportunity to reaffirm close cooperation between the ROK and the UN, and to further step up collaboration with the UN in establishing peace on the Korean Peninsula, and addressing global issues.
