Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha visited Washington, the US, on May 11, and held her first meeting with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and a joint press conference after the meeting.  

 

The two sides shared their assessments of the recent progress in the situation on the Korean Peninsula, including the accomplishments of the inter-Korean summit, ahead of the ROK-US summit on May 22, and engaged in in-depth discussions on ways the ROK and US diplomatic authorities can work together to make a success of the US-North Korea summit, and thereby denuclearize North Korea and establish peace on the Korean Peninsula.
