1. Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha visited the municipal Shinmok Community Welfare Center in Yangcheon-gu (district), Seoul, on September 29 in a bid to help foster a warm social culture. During the visit to the facility, the Minister handed presents and cash to foreign women who are married to Korean men and living in the Republic of Korea.

° The visit came as all minister-level officials had decided at their meeting on September 5 to visit around the Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) holidays and offer sympathy to those displaced by disasters. The Foreign Ministry, considering the nature of its work, visited the center that renders support to foreign women married to Korean men.

2. Minister Kang extended Chuseok greetings and words of blessing to the foreign women from such regions as Southeast and Central Asia, and made with them Songpyeon (half-moon-shaped rice cakes eaten during Chuseok).

3. The Foreign Ministry visits eight social welfare facilities, including those for children, the challenged and the elderly, around the Seol (lunar New Year’s Day) and Chuseok holidays to carry out acts of sharing and volunteer work.
