1. Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha met with EU Special Representative for Human Rights Stavros Lambrinidis on November 30. They discussed ways for the ROK and the EU to work together to promote human rights around the world, and ways to promote the human rights of persons with disabilities at the PyeongChang Paralympic Winter Games.

o Minister Kang took note that the EU has made efforts to promote human rights around the world, making the promotion of human rights its key foreign policy agenda. She also reaffirmed the importance of cooperation between the ROK and the EU to resolve human rights and humanitarian issues, including the Rohingya issue.

2. EU Special Representative for Human Rights Lambrinidis spoke highly of the ROK’s experience of promoting democracy and human rights, and stressed the need for countries with good human rights records in each region, including the ROK, to share their exemplary cases with the international community.

o Minister Kang talked about cases in the ROK that contributed to the promotion of democracy and human rights, including the Candlelight Revolution, and expressed support for the EU’s efforts to improve democracy and human rights across the world by encouraging countries to share their exemplary cases with each other.
