Outcome of Visit to Russia by Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs (Nov. 7-9)

1. During his visit to the Russian Federation, Amb. Lee Do-hoon, Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, participated in a session on the Korean Peninsula at the Moscow Nonproliferation Conference on November 8. In the session, he exchanged views on Korean Peninsula issues with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Igor Morgulov and Director of the Center for Energy and Security Studies Anton Khlopkov, as well as a number of participating government officials and scholars from such countries as the United States (U.S.), the Kingdom of Sweden and the Russian Federation.


2. On November 9, Amb. Lee had a working breakfast with Special Envoy for North Korea of the U.S. Department of State Mark Lambert, during which the two sides discussed the progress since the U.S.-North Korea working-level negotiations held in Stockholm and ways to move forward.

 

3. Meanwhile, Director-General for North Korean Nuclear Affairs Lee Moon-hee, who accompanied Amb. Lee on his visit to Russia, had bilateral meetings with Mr. Oleg Burmistrov, Ambassador-at-Large in charge of the North Korean nuclear issue at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, and Mr. Masami Tamura, Deputy Director-General of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, on November 8. During the respective meetings, the two sides discussed ways for the ROK and Russia, and the ROK and Japan to work together toward complete denuclearization and the establishment of permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula.
