1. Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Lee Do-hoon, having had dinner with new Special Representative for North Korea Stephen Biegun of the United States on September 10, held a meeting with him on September 11. In the meeting, the two senior diplomats exchanged views on the recent developments in the situation on the Korean Peninsula, including the outcome of the visit to North Korea by special envoys of the Republic of Korea; and discussed in depth next strategies that the ROK and the US could implement for the denuclearization and peace on the Korean Peninsula by building on these developments.

 

° The two sides discussed a variety of ways that the two countries, while maintaining the momentum of dialogue, could seek tangible progress toward a complete denuclearization and a lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula.

 

° To that end, the two sides agreed to make all-out diplomatic efforts to move forward the inter-Korean relations and denuclearization efforts in a virtuous circle through ironclad ROK-US coordination.

 

2. The two sides, bringing attention to upcoming important diplomatic events, including the 2018 Inter-Korean Summit Pyeongyang and the 2018 session of the UN General Assembly, shared the view that it was of foremost importance to cooperate with each other as often as necessary to seek further progress in the situation.

 

° The two sides agreed to communicate and coordinate with each other on diverse occasions and as often as necessary to set concrete strategies by building on the outcome of their meeting on September 11.
